What is best for me, Counselling/Psychotherapy or Hypnotherapy?
This is a question I often get asked by potential clients.
There can be a crossover with each therapy in that benefits can be seen by the use of Hypnosis and Counselling for a number of issues. However I would always advise the approach that I believe best suits your needs.
Hypnosis is very powerful but as I explain in FAQs, it cannot make you do something you do not want to. For example, if you are seeking Hypnotherapy to deal with an issue because someone else has suggested it or forced you to go and you are not ready to make those changes then it may not be effective. This is also true of any form of therapy. You are at the centre of the work and need to be ready in your own time to take the first step.
Hypnotherapy is most effective with people who have good imaginations as there is a lot of visualisation suggestion in the work. If you are the sort of person who easily becomes involved in a good book and can picture the characters and places then you would be a good candidate for Hypnosis. It can help you to deeply relax and to feel safe and confident and feel more open to talking about issues you are experiencing. I have used it very successfully with clients experiencing anxiety and low self-esteem.
Phobias respond well to Hypnotherapy and it can be very useful in working to change the subconscious 'Inner Critic' and improve anxiety, confidence and self-esteem.
I have worked with clients experiencing anxiety, panic attacks and depression using Hypnotherapy when starting work together and then moved on to counselling when they have felt ready to open up about their feelings.
All this will be discussed in the initial, free consultation where we can explore together the best approach for you.
