Frequently Asked Questions

Counselling/Psychotherapy

  • Does my seeking therapy mean that I am mentally ill?
Absolutely not. The fact that you have taken the decision to seek therapy means that you are taking control of your life and want to make changes in order for you to live the life you want. It is a positive decision.
  • Do I need to have weekly appointments?
Ideally, yes. Therapy is less effective if there are breaks or long periods between sessions. Once we have agreed to meet on set days and times, this needs to be committed to in order for you to get the best from your therapy, to maintain continuity and make changes more quickly. However, I do offer short term therapy.
  • Do you have a cancellation policy?
Please see Client Contract including T&C PDF under Appointments and Fees section.
  • What if you, the therapist, needs to cancel or rearrange my appointment?
The relationship between client and therapist is one built on mutual respect. I value your time and responsibilities and ask that you do the same for me. I will not cancel your appointment unless absolutely necessary due to illness or an absolute emergency.
  • What about holidays?
If I am going on holiday, I will give you at least 2 weeks' notice and ask that you do the same.
  • Are sessions confidential?
Yes, however, I may discuss you with my clinical supervisor as is required by my governing body, but you and your information will be anonymised and you will not be identified. All information, including notes are kept strictly in line with GDPR.
There are exceptional circumstances where I may need to break this confidence: If I believe you are about to harm yourself or another person/persons. If I believe you are threatening an act of terrorism or have harmed a vulnerable person. In these instances I am compelled to inform outside agencies such as your G.P. or the police.

    Hypnotherapy
  • Will I be unconscious and unaware of what is happening to me?
No. Although in a deeply relaxed state, you will remain aware of yourself and your surroundings and will not be out of control nor 'under my control.' Clients sometimes even feel a heightened sense of awareness during hypnosis. You can choose to stop at any time.
  • Will I do or say something out of character when under hypnosis?
No. You won't behave in any way that you wouldn't when completely conscious and you will be aware of what you are saying or doing (if anything at all). It is more usual that I will be the one talking and you won't say or do anything other than enjoy being relaxed.
  • How long are sessions?
Generally between 60 minutes. We will talk before entering into hypnotherapy and also following in order that you are feeling fully present and ready to leave the room. It is extremely important that you do not feel rushed or unsettled at the end of the hypnosis.
  • How many sessions will I need?
1-6 sessions is usual but this very much depends on the individual and the issue being worked with and personal, client choice.
